Varsity Soccer: Conquerors Open Season at Touch, Experienced Bishop Snyder
By Joel Milligan, TCA
On a chilly Florida evening, Coach Dan Robertson led the young, athletic TCA Conquerors‘ varsity soccer team against a disciplined, experienced Cardinals team from Bishop Snyder High School. With the help of stellar goalkeeping, the Conquerors held Snyder scoreless until the last minute of the first half. The Cardinals, however, snuck one past Conquerors goalkeeper Alijah Haynes, who had 22 saves in the first half alone.
Senior Gavin Downing also provided multiple defensive stops throughout the match for the Conquerors. After a foul in the box by TCA, Snyder made a penalty kick at the 35-minute mark of the second half to push their lead to 2-0.
TCA Senior Wesley Scott had three solid shots on goal in the second half that each just missed. Synder then chipped in a late goal for a 3-0 win.
It was a great effort by the Conquerors with a young team and only one replacement on the sidelines. Haynes had 31 saves overall on the night at keeper.
The Conquerors (0-2) will play next atDuval Charter on Monday, November 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. After Thanksgiving, TCA will visit Providence and Duval Charter again on December 4 and 8, respectively.
